The Academy Is… played their very last show at Terminal 5 this past September for Fueled by Ramen’s 15 year anniversary. After playing together for nine years, releasing three albums as a group, and touring all over the country, the band amicably went their separate ways early last month. TAI’s New York performance was truly special in itself. In fact, no one, not even TAI, knew that it would be their last; at the time, the band was set to accompany Jack’s Mannequin on their ongoing West Coast tour. Despite this lack of foresight, it really was a perfect and very fitting show to go out on. They played every single song, each as catchy as the last, from their much loved debut album, Almost Here. Almost Here is undoubtedly the album that both gained TAI the wild and lasting infatuation of their fans, as well as that which they are most remembered for. With that said, the performance was reminiscent of those from TAI’s younger days. It really was like a trip back to 2005; the nostalgia in the room was palpable, and the fans were enjoying every minute of it. Be sure to keep a look out for William Beckett, who will be playing an acoustic set at the Dear Jack Benefit in L.A. this Friday, and his solo work to come.
